What Are Strokes?

A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked by blood clots, narrowed blood vessels or bleeding into the brain. A lack of blood flow causes cells to die very quickly, resulting in sensory or mechanical losses. People who have had a stroke may have partial paralysis, trouble walking, speaking or thinking clearly. There are two categories of stroke: Ischemic and Hemorrhagic. Ischemic strokes are caused by blood clots. Hemorrhagic strokes result from a ruptured blood vessel. A Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) is often referred to as a mini-stroke. Symptoms include sudden numbness or tingling, blurred vision, slurred speech and stumbling that is reversible or transient. It is an indicator that a larger, more damaging stroke is on the way.

Strokes are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. (22)  People who have the following conditions are at higher risk of having a stroke. (23)

  • Carotid Artery Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Atrial Fibrillation (Irregular Heartbeat)
  • Cigarette Smoking
  • Coronary Heart Disease
  • Diabetes
  • History of Stroke
  • Lack of Exercise
  • Obesity
  • Excessive Alcohol Consumption
  • High Cholesterol

Reduce Your Risk of Having a Stroke

The American Heart Association recommends aspirin use as a preventative measure for recurrent strokes and TIA. (24)  Their recommendation is based on numerous clinical trials, which all conclude that aspirin therapy reduces the risk of strokes in both men and women with a number of risk factors. The studies show that aspirin therapy can reduce the rate of non-fatal strokes by 25%. (25)  Additional clinical data shows that lower doses than regular strength aspirin are appropriate for stroke prevention and survival, making Halfprin 162 an ideal choice.

Halfprin® for Stroke Prevention

Halfprin 162 provides an appropriate dose of aspirin for the prevention of stroke — the dosage found in half a regular aspirin. (1)   If you are considering aspirin use for stroke prevention, you should talk to your doctor about its benefits and risks.

WARNING:

If you are having a stroke, taking aspirin isn't advised because not all strokes are caused by blood clots. While clots cause most strokes, some are caused by ruptured blood vessels. Taking aspirin could potentially make these bleeding strokes more severe. (24)
